Year 6 Leadership Extension Camps - Important details for Principals and/or organising teachers

This year Tinaroo EEC will conduct a three-day (2 nights) Year 6 Leadership Extension Camp for student leaders in your cluster.
This camp, in previous years, has been very successful and has allowed young school leaders to improve their skills and provides the opportunity to interact and share ideas with students from other schools.

Arrangements for 2019 include:
  • Both North and South Camps will be hosted at the Barron River Campus on the same dates.
  • TEEC will again liaise with the cluster to provide 2 key teachers to assist with camp. These teachers will receive 15 hrs PD around the 7 Australian Professional Standards For Teachers. TEEC will pay TRS to cover only two teachers per cluster per camp.
  • This opportunity is designed to upskill teachers within the cluster and offers will be rotated yearly.
  • Schools are welcome to send extra staff to support their students on the understanding that they need to cover their own release arrangements.
Target Group: Year 6 (extension)- School captains, Vice captains. (Max: of 4 students per school, 2 for small schools)

Venue: Tinaroo Environmental Education Centre.

$300 per student. This includes Camp Fees, Catering, Leadership Shirt, Rewards Day and TRS component per child.  Costs are to be paid by the School. This Centre will invoice your school for the total amount after the camp.

Please organise transport for your students to and from Tinaroo EEC. Arrive Day 1 at 9.00am; Depart Day 3 at 2.00 pm. As far as practically possible a vehicle share arrangement needs to be organised to fit the environmental ethic of this Centre.

TEEC Personnel: Peter MacGregor, Phil Harrison, Darryl Dilger, Bret Crosby, Louka Lazaredes, Matt Marsh and Hal Fulford

Please Note: The focus of the camp will be on developing leadership skills through a variety of indoor classroom work and outdoor challenges. There will be a strong focus on communication skills.
Principal's involvement: The principal or teacher working with the student leaders in your school is encouraged to attend a presentation and planning session at 9:30am on the third morning. After a presentation of the skills covered on camp and a short forum to share leadership experiences, the Principal/teacher develops a Leadership Plan with the leaders for the year. Principals are also invited to attend the presentations on the Rewards Day at the end of year.
Please note that principals and teachers are always welcome to visit anytime during the camp.
Principals please ensure that:
1. Students bring their Consent Forms with them to camp.
2. All students arrive at camp wearing their full school uniform.
3. Students are aware of the expectations of the TEEC program for the year.
Please complete the attached attendance sheet and fax/email it to TEEC by end of week 3 (Friday 15th February).
