At Tinaroo Environmental Education Centre, safety, respect, and care for our environment are at the heart of everything we do. Our rules and policies are designed to ensure every camp and excursion is a positive, enjoyable, and well-organised experience for students, teachers, and staff. Please review the guidelines provided to help prepare your group and support a safe, inclusive, and environmentally responsible stay.

Role of TEEC Staff

TEEC staff work alongside teachers to plan and deliver engaging experiences, support environmental and outdoor education programs, and ensure the safe and effective use of the Centre’s facilities. They assist with program design, resource development, and teacher professional learning. TEEC Staff also help students build environmental awareness and an appreciation for outdoor learning. TEEC coordinates daytime activities in partnership with visiting teachers, while evening programs are managed by visiting school staff.

Roles and Responsibilities of Visiting Teachers

Visiting school teachers play an active role in planning and leading a successful camp experience. Before your visit, please follow our Camp Planning Checklist and arrange any pre-visit meetings with your TEEC coordinating teacher.
During your stay, TEEC staff will lead most activities, but accompanying teachers are expected to participate, assist with group management, and take responsibility for students outside scheduled program times. Visiting staff also manage discipline, meals, and medication, and must record any incidents with the TEEC principal.
After camp, we encourage teachers to share feedback, testimonials, or examples of how the camp supported their curriculum.

Roles and Responsibilities of Escorting Adults and Parents

Parents and accompanying adults are an important part of the camp community, helping create a safe, supportive, and enjoyable experience for all students. Your assistance with supervision during meals, activities, and daily routines is greatly valued and contributes to the success of each program. While some activities are led by teaching staff for safety reasons, your encouragement and involvement play a key role in helping students build confidence and independence. We ask that adults always follow supervision guidelines and avoid being alone with students in accommodation areas.

Working with children (blue card)

As the Principal of Tinaroo Environmental Education Centre, I declare that all adults working at our Black Gully and Barron River campus comply with the requirements of the working with children (blue card) procedure.
