Discover Tinaroo Environmental Education Centre
Nestled in the heart of the Atherton Tablelands in Tropical North Queensland, Tinaroo Environmental Education Centre (TEEC) has been inspiring young minds through unforgettable outdoor and environmental learning since 1987. Operated by the Queensland Department of Education, we offer students hands-on experiences that connect them to nature, challenge them physically, and grow their teamwork and leadership skills.
Over decades, we’ve welcomed thousands of primary and secondary students from across Far North Queensland, providing them with safe, engaging, and professionally delivered educational programs — the kind that create memories and skills to last a lifetime.
In 2017, we proudly expanded our reach by taking on the former Harold Holt Memorial National Fitness Camp — a site also known in its history as the Tinaroo Recreation Centre, Lake Tinaroo Active Recreation Centre, and Lake Tinaroo Apex Camp. Today, this facility is our Tinaroo EEC – Barron River Campus, working hand-in-hand with our Tinaroo EEC – Black Gully Campus. Together, our two campuses have tripled our capacity and opened new opportunities for schools and groups to explore, learn, and grow.
