The Year 6 Leadership Extension Program at Tinaroo Environmental Education Centre is a proud tradition that has been empowering young leaders for many years. This inspiring initiative nurtures the personal and social capabilities of Year 6 student leaders from schools across our region, helping them grow into confident, responsible, and community-minded individuals. Each year, TEEC begins by hosting an unforgettable Term 1 camp at our Barron River Campus, where students work alongside their principal or teacher to design meaningful leadership projects for their school. Throughout the year, they continue to develop their leadership skills through hands-on experiences, guided by dedicated teachers at their schools - who support and encourage their growth. By the end of the program, these young leaders are equipped not only with practical leadership skills, but also with the passion and purpose to make a positive difference in their school communities.
The 10 Leadership Skills that we focus on are:
- Listening
- Making decisions
- Encouraging Others
- Evaluating
- Supporting Others
- Modelling Behaviours
- Showing initiative
- Organising
- Delegating
- Communicating Clearly

Term 1
Student Leaders attend a camp in their Cluster groups. This camp is of 3 days duration and focuses on the 10 Leadership Skills. Principals are invited to attend a presentation on the final day and are then encouraged to complete a session of goal setting with their leaders.
Term 2
Leadership Encouragement School Visits - these usually occur late in term 2. A TEEC teacher will either visit the school or host a virtual meeting with leaders in order to provide support and encouragement. During these visits the students share projects they have been working on and apply their skills by hosting a tour of their school grounds if possible.
Term 4
At the end of each year TEEC hosts a 'Rewards Day' for each of the leadership clusters. This is where students present a speech based on their leadership experiences throughout the year.
