Personal and Social Capabilities
The Personal and Social capability provides a foundation for students to understand themselves and others. Students with well-developed social and emotional skills find it easier to manage themselves, relate and collaborate with others, develop empathy, set goals and resolve conflict. Through our programs we aim to assist students to effectively engage with new ways of thinking, knowing and doing. Here at TEEC we are committed to assisting in the development of these with our visiting students.
The Personal and Social Capabilities can be organised into the following 4 elements:
• Self Awareness
• Self Management
• Social Awareness
• Social Management
Critical and Creative Thinking
At TEEC, our camp programs are designed to spark both critical and creative thinking — two powerful ways of learning that help students explore, question, and make sense of the world around them.
Critical thinking encourages students to analyse information, weigh up possibilities, and use evidence and logic to make sound decisions and solve problems.
Creative thinking invites students to imagine new ideas, view challenges from fresh perspectives, and develop innovative solutions.
Through outdoor activities, team challenges, and inquiry-based learning around our centres, students strengthen qualities such as curiosity, open-mindedness, persistence, and flexibility. These experiences build student’s confidence to test ideas, consider alternatives, and adapt to new situations.
Our approach to critical and creative thinking is guided by four key elements:
• Inquiring – asking questions and exploring possibilities
• Generating – creating and sharing new ideas
• Analysing – evaluating evidence and options
• Reflecting – considering outcomes and learning from experiences
By weaving these skills into real-world, hands-on learning, our programs help students connect thinking with action — building capabilities they can take well beyond camp.
Sustainability
At Tinaroo Environmental Education Centre, we are committed to living as sustainably as we can in preserving our environment. We are proud of that fact that we try to provide a model for how schools and families can live sustainably. Here at our centre, we strive to make our ecological footprint smaller. Each of our programs at TEEC are written with the intention of having at least one sustainability focus area. Elements of all our programs are designed to raise student awareness of informed actions and the ways in which one person, or a collective, can create a more environmentally just world. We encourage students to reflect on how they interpret and engage with the world.
Sustainability Focus Areas:
• Energy
• Water
• Waste
• Biodiversity
