Clove Hitch
A Clove hitch is generally used to attach a rope to a round spar. It is an ideal knot to use when beginning to lash two spars together. When building a shelter we use it to attach a cord (around a vegie ball) to the bivvy sheet.

Reef Knot
A Reef Knot or Square Knot as it is sometimes called is used for joining two pieces of rope together. When building a shelter we use it to join two bivvy cords together to make one longer rope.

Rolling Hitch
A Rolling hitch is generally used on a guy rope which is attached from your shelter to a peg. It is a great knot because it will slide easily and can therefore be used to tighten or loosen the guy rope quickly.
