Lesson Purpose :
To learn the basic strokes of canoeing - forward paddle, emergency stop, steering stroke.
Learn the safety issues required for successful canoeing.
Work cooperatively with the members of their canoe group.
Care of equipment and teamwork are highlighted.
Time Needed :
90 mins for our basic skills sessions but usually leads into some sort of canoe journey which will use up a morning or afternoon session.

All Instructors will meet the requirements of the Education Queensland Curriculum Activity Risk Assessment Guidelines (CARAs)
General Comments :
Usually completed on the first afternoon of camp. An essential activity for those groups who plan to do any of our activities elsewhere on the lake.

During the course of this activity it may be possible to target a number of the "Content Descriptions" across year levels five upwards.
