Lesson Purpose :

  1. As a group, work through a number of obstacles and challenges within the boundaries of the Centre. 

  2. To highlight the need for co-operation, trust, teamwork and effective communication.

  3. To encourage the individual to identify their own strengths and weaknesses as well as those of others.

  4. To work as part of a team.

 

Time Needed :

Between 30 mins and 2 hrs depending on how many elements are attempted.

 

Year Levels :

Year 4 upwards

 

Instructors :

TEEC Staff and Class Teacher.

A great way to get your students to think and work together.

During the course of this activity it may be possible to target a number of the "Content Descriptions" across year levels four upwards. 

 
 

Year 4

Health and Physical Education

  • Explore how success, challenge and failure strengthen identities.
  • Describe and apply strategies that can be used in situations that make them feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
  • Identify and practise strategies to promote health, safety and wellbeing.

  • Describe how respect, empathy and valuing diversity can positively influence relationships. 
  • Investigate how emotional responses vary in depth and strength. 

Contributing to healthy and active communities

  • Describe strategies to make the classroom and playground healthy, safe and active spaces.
  • Participate in outdoor games and activities to examine how participation promotes a connectionbetween the community, natural and built environments, and health and wellbeing.  

Movement and physical activity

Moving our body 

  • Practise and refine fundamental movement skills in a variety of movement sequences and situations. 
  • Practise and apply movement concepts and strategies with and without equipment. 
  • Examine the benefits of physical activity to health and wellbeing.

Understanding movement 

  • Combine the elements of effort, space, time, objects and people when performing movement sequences. 

Learning through movement

  •  Adopt inclusive practices when participating in physical activities.
  • Apply innovative and creative thinking in solving movement challenges.

  • Investigate the role of preventative health in promoting and maintaining health, safety and wellbeing for individuals and their communities.
  • Explore how participation in outdoor activities supports personal and community healath and wellbeing and creates connections to the natural and built environment. 
  • Identify how valuing diversity positively influences the wellbeing of the community. 
Movement and physical activity

Moving our body 

  • Practise specialised movement skills and apply them in a variety of movement sequences and situations.
  • Propose and apply movement concepts and strategies with and without equipment. 

Understanding movement 

  • Participate in physical activities designed to enhance fitness, and discuss the impact regular participation can have on health and wellbeing. 
  • Manipulate and modify the elements of effort, space, time, objects and people to perform movement sequences.

Learning through movement 

  • Participate positively in groups and teams by encouraging others and negotiating roles and responsibilities.
  • Apply critical and creative thinking processes in order to generate and assess solutions to movement challenges.
  • Demonstrate ethical and fair play that aligns with the rules when participating in a range of physical activities.

  • Use feedback to improve body control and coordination when performing specialised movement skills in a variety of situations.

  • Evaluate situations and propose appropriate emotional responses and then reflect on possible outcomes of different responses.

  • Plan and evaluate new and creative interventions that promote their own and others; connection to community and natural and built environments.
